Community Services & Organizations

North Greenwood Community Association

The North Greenwood Community Association (NGCA) was established in 1984 to provide fire prevention, fire fighting, and emergency and other community services to the geographical area bounded on the North by the Navarro River, the West by the Pacific Ocean, the South by the northerly boundary of the Elk Water District, and extending easterly along Cameron Road between Highway 1 and Philo-Greenwood Road.  When the Community Services District assumed the function of fire protection several years later, NGCA changed its purpose to planning, environmental and quality-of-life issues, and other community services not provided or insufficiently funded by federal, state or county governments.  NGCA members continue to house, maintain and operate a fire truck; respond to emergencies; and provide auxiliary funding to the Elk Volunteer Fire Department.

NGCA is a public benefit corporation organized exclusively for public and charitable purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  A five-member volunteer Board of Directors, elected by the membership, meets quarterly.  There is an annual meeting of the general membership in June.  Dues are $20 per property owner or $10 for renters.

Funds generated from dues and donations contribute to fire prevention awareness; safety and emergency preparedness activities and equipment; and acquisition and maintenance of Elk Volunteer Fire Department vehicles and equipment.
