Redwood Coast Watershed Alliance
The Redwood Coast Watershed Alliance (RCWA) is a coalition of citizen organizations on ridges, valleys and waterways of the Mendocino Coast concerned with providing adequate protection for the sustainability of area resources. RCWA was formed in 1989 to bring together a small community threatened with excessive logging by Louisiana Pacific Corporation. Within a couple of years, activists concerned about thousands of acres joined RCWA and began to petition the government and industry at all levels.
While primarily focused on the protection of forest and fishery resources, RCWA opposes the use of toxics and GMO seed propagation and supports reasonable land use planning.
RCWA Affiliates include:
Ocean Protection Coalition (OPC)
Coast Action Group (CAG)
Environmental Commons
Friends of Big River (FoGR)
Friends of the Gualala River
Friends of the Ten Mile (FOTTM)
Albion River Watershed Protection Association / Friends of Salmon Creek (ARWPA/FOSC)
RCWA is an umbrella public benefit corporation organized exclusively for public and charitable purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is guided by a five-member volunteer Board of Directors, elected by the membership.
