January – February – March
Town Meeting
Sponsored by the Greenwood Community Center. The Board of Directors reports the year’s accomplishments. Representatives of community organizations bring residents up to date with news and activities of the past year. Refreshments provided. Held in January at the Greenwood Community Center.
Easter Egg Hunt
Sponsored by the Greenwood Community Center. An egg hunt for kids of all ages, followed by lunch. Held each Easter Sunday (March or April) at the Greenwood Community Center following services at the Greenwood Community Church.
St Patrick's Party
Sponsored by the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Greenwood Community Church Foundation. A Mass at Blessed Sacrament precedes a corned beef and cabbage and potluck dinner at the Greenwood Community Center. Includes live music, 50-50 raffle, and silent auction. Proceeds used for maintenance and restoration of the historic churches. Held the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day in March.
April – May- June
Elk Rummage Sale
Sponsored by the Greenwood Civic Club. Huge selection at bargain prices. Gourmet food available. Proceeds support community projects, a children’s summer program, and student scholarships. Held on or close to the first weekend in May at the Greenwood Community Center.
Pepper Martin Day
Sponsored by the Greenwood Community Center. Old-fashioned community softball games – one for kids, one for adults. Come play or watch and enjoy a grilled hot dog. Proceeds support the Center’s Summer Program for Children. Held in May at Sinclair Field, next to the Greenwood Community Center.
July – August – September
Summer BBQ
Sponsored by the Elk Volunteer Fire Department. Includes a no-host bar and famous margaritas, raffle, live music, and activities for kids. Funds raised help maintain fire equipment and department operations. Held the last Saturday in July at the Greenwood Community Center.
Summer Program for Children
Sponsored by the Greenwood Community Center with support from the Greenwood Civic Club . Arts, crafts, and exploration activities for kids. Held during the month of July at the Greenwood School.
Great Day in Elk
Sponsored by the Greenwood Community Center. End-of-summer community celebration. Noontime parade through downtown Elk, followed by activities for all ages at the Greenwood Community Center. Carnival, live entertainment, greased pole climbing & watermelon-eating contests, silent auction, cake auction, and more. No-host bar, fresh-pressed cider, and abundant food options. Evening dinner and dance. Funds raised support the Center’s programs and ongoing maintenance of the facilities. Held in August.
October – November – December
Halloween Party
Sponsored by the Greenwood Community Center. Early-bird dinner for children and families. Held in October at the Greenwood Community Center.
Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair
Sponsored by the Greenwood Community Church Foundation. Hand-crafted gifts, wreaths, and food products. Snacks and lunch available. Funds raised help maintain and renovate the historic Greenwood Community Church and parsonage. Held the first Saturday in December at the Greenwood Community Center.
Christmas Sing-a-Long
Sponsored by the Greenwood Community Church Foundation. Live music and singing with community participation and a visit from Santa. Cookies and cider provided. Offerings accepted. Held in December at the Greenwood Community Church.
