August 29, 2026 Saturday –
The Greenwood Community Center welcomes you to the 50th Anniversary of Great Day in Elk to be held on Saturday, August 29th!
As always, Great Day will begin at noon with a parade through town. The afternoon festivities include children’s carnival games, a raffle, the silent auction, a craft fair including face painting, spin art and sew-your-own stuffed animal, the cake auction, the famous $100 greased pole, a watermelon eating contest, sack races, and live music and entertainment on the outdoor-stage featuring the Mendo Taiko drummers and Jason Beard’s Bring Joy Band, with Sarah Larkin.
There will be lots of food and drink, including Jeff’s best-ever sausages, focaccia bread from the Vincent Carleton Bread Oven served with Moroccan-style lentil soup as well as tamales and chicken Caesar salad from the kitchen. For dessert, you will find yummy treats at the Civic Club’s Sweet Shack and Berry Sundae booth. Quench your thirst with Greenwood Gold fresh pressed apple cider, a soft drink, coffee, local beer from the North Coast Brewing Company, local wine, or a margarita from Elk’s World-Famous Margarita Bar. Dinner by Matt Samuelson of Spontaneous Café starts at 4:00. On the menu is Garlic Lemon Chicken and Tempeh Cutlets.
Raffle tickets are $3 each or six for $15. All proceeds this year will go to the maintenance and upkeep of the beloved Community Center. You can also make a donation through our PayPal link at elkweb.org under “Greenwood Community Center.” Your name, address, and phone number will be put on tickets and added to the raffle jar for a drawing at Great Day, however, you need not be present to win.
AND, Great Night is back! From 6:30-11:00, the Talking Heads tribute band, Burning Down the House, will be rocking out! Rides to and from Mendocino will be available, as well as 12 slots for childcare, by pre-order, at Great Night in Elk
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you on GREAT DAY
and at GREAT NIGHT! But please leave your dogs at home.
